SEKA is currently seeking a Legal Trainee to immediately join our IP and Media Department. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience across a wide range of matters in Intellectual Property and Media Law, in direct collaboration with the partner and the senior legal team of the department.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Law (completed)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Turkish and English
• Strong interest in IP and media law
• Detail-oriented with excellent research and drafting skills
• Responsible, team-oriented, and open to feedback
Responsibilities
Intellectual Property Law
As part of the IP practice group, you will support our senior legal team and work closely with the partner on a broad range of IP matters, including:
• Trademark prosecution, including availability searches, filing strategies, and responding to office actions before the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TÜRKPATENT)
• Trademark opposition and appeal procedures, including drafting oppositions, counter-statements, and appeals
• Litigation support for trademark infringement, invalidation, and unfair competition lawsuits before IP courts
• Patent and industrial design filings, renewals, and representation before national and international offices
• Patent and design enforcement, including cease-and-desist processes, infringement actions, and invalidity proceedings before the Turkish IP courts
• Drafting and reviewing IP-related contracts, such as licensing agreements, coexistence agreements, assignment contracts, and non-disclosure agreements
• Participating in trademark watching procedures, including reviewing TÜRKPATENT bulletins, identifying potentially conflicting applications, and advising on opposition strategies
• Assisting in client portfolio management, including strategic planning for national and international registrations, WIPO/Madrid filings, and renewals
• Preparing legal memoranda and formal opinions on registrability, distinctiveness, infringement risk, and unfair competition matters
• Supporting the litigation team with legal research, evidence collection, and brief drafting in trademark, patent, and design-related lawsuits
• Conducting comparative legal analysis and staying up to date with local and international IP law developments relevant to client matters
Media Law
As a trainee in our Media Law practice, you will assist the senior team and partner in providing full legal support to leading media and entertainment companies, including:
o Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of media-related contracts, such as:
o Content licensing agreements
o Production and co-production agreements
o Broadcasting and streaming distribution contracts
o Talent and influencer agreements
o Advertising and sponsorship contracts
o Post-production and music clearance agreements
• Supporting contract negotiations for major international studios, TV channels, streaming platforms, and content producers
